When cherries are in season, even when they aren’t actually, with frozen alternatives out there (see NOTES) , there’s not a cocktail much more refreshing.
When I first tried this, I still had some fresh cherries in the fridge, and was wondering what to do with them I Googled around and saw any number of recipes for refreshing cocktails with a cherry base. This is my take, derived from several. Enjoy!
INGREDIENTS
6 pitted cherries, divided
1 thin slice lemon
1 thin slice lime
1 small sprig of mint
1 oz simple syrup
2 oz bourbon
Club soda, to finish
DIRECTIONS
In a bartender’s mixing glass, muddle/crush 4 of the cherries, the lemon, the lime, and the mint. Smash it up!
Add the simple syrup and bourbon, and give it a stir.
Add some ice cubes or crushed ice, and give it another good stir.
In a double old fashioned glass, put the 2 remaining cherries in the bottom, and crush them only slightly. Add ice cubes, or a single large cube, or an ice sphere, and strain the bourbon mixture into the glass.
Top it off with a splash of club soda, add a sprig of mint for garnish, and enjoy.
NOTES
If fresh cherries aren’t available, or if the season has passed you by, frozen cherries will do; just thaw them enough to crush them.
